Chef Luke Nguyen's passion for food leads him on a quest out of Asia to France, the culinary wonderland that helped shape the cuisine of Vietnam, his ancestral home, and the lives of so many in his family.

He begins his adventure in Paris to discover its residents' passion for culinary traditions. He visits Strasbourg, Marseille, Nice, and the Loire Valley. Then he stops in Lyon, considered the food capital of France, before ending his journey in the seaside town of Saint-Malo, where he catches giant crabs with a local fisherman and cooks scallops.

      Luke Nguyen was born in 1978 in a refugee camp in Bangkok, Thailand, shortly after his parents fled Vietnam as refugees. A short time later, his family moved to Sydney, Australia, where they live today.

      Luke is the chef and owner of Sydney’s award-winning Vietnamese restaurants, Red Lantern and Red Lantern on Riley. He is the author of the bestselling books, Secrets of the Red Lantern, Songs of Sapa, Indochine and Luke Nguyen’s Greater Mekong.

      When he’s not at the restaurant, Luke runs 19-day culinary discovery trips to Vietnam and Cambodia and hosts popular travel and cooking series Luke Nguyen’s Vietnam and Luke Nguyen’s Greater Mekong.
